Winds of Ladakh Bike Tour by BRM EXPEDITIONS

Where we ride

Your journey begins in Leh, the vibrant heart of Ladakh. After arriving and checking into your hotel, you will be briefed about the trip and advised to take rest as its important to acclimatize to the high altitude. This hotel in Leh will serve as your base for the expedition. In the evening you can explore the bustling markets and discover the serene beauty of local architecture by visiting Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace.

We begin the day with a good breakfast and you are introduced to your bikes by the team. This is the day to explore Leh town and the nearby places and also get accustomed to riding the bikes in these altitudes. We would ride to Sangam to see the confluence of Indus and Zanskar rivers and on the ways back make pit stops at Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Sahab and the War Memorial. After lunch in town, we ride to Thiksey and Hemis monasteries thus rounding off a good riding day.

As the sun dawns its golden rays on the rugged landscape, we will set off on the bikes towards Nubra Valley, called Dumra in local language, meaning valley of Flowers . We will be journeying through the legendary Khardung La, considered one of the world’s highest motorable passes. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Indus Valley we conquer this magnificent pass. Upon descending into Nubra Valley, we shall visit the Diskit Monastery, the oldest and biggest monastery in Nubra.it will be followed by a thrilling camel ride amid the enchanting sand dunes of Hunder. Overnight at Camps in Diskit under clear night skies.

Day 5: Diskit – Turtuk – Diskit

Today, your motorcycle adventure will lead you to the hidden gem of Turtuk, The northern most village of India. Tucked away in the farthest corner, this remote village offers a unique cultural experience. The friendly locals, stunning landscapes, and delectable Balti cuisine make this a destination you’ll treasure. The ride from Diskit is about 95kms and takes about 2.5- 3 hrs. We leave after breakfast and return to our Camp in Diskit by evening, covering almost 190 kms.

Day 5 of your Motorcycle tour of Leh would have you ride from Diskit to Pangong lake, the most recognizable area of Ladakh. We shall take the Agham- Shyok road and make a 180 km journey to the Highest salt water lake in the World. Riding towards Pangong Lake, you’ll be captivated by its mesmerizing, ever-changing colors. We should reach the lake by late noon and check in to our Camp by the lakeside. Evening free to gaze at the starlit sky, feeling the magic of this remote and pristine location.

We recommend you wake up early, to catch Pangong lake at its most vibrant self. As the sun rises, the lake gives an unearthly Aura; something you should definitely experience. Post breakfast we begin our ride to Hanle, a serene village untouched by time. The 170 km ride is through some of the most beautiful landscape, that includes grasslands, marhes and some typical Ladakhi barren mountains. In Hanle, we explore the Hanle Monastery and the Hanle Observatory, where the cosmos reveals its secrets. The peaceful monastic life and the beauty of this remote destination are sure to leave a lasting impression.

Located at an altitude of 19000 ft, Umling la is one of the highest motorable roads globally, and promises a thrilling challenge. The 105 km ride from Hanle is exciting, with off road terrain , steep climbs and some water crossings, this is perhaps the toughest ride of the tour. But when you are riding the highest passes in the world, this comes with territory. At the summit, the panoramic views will leave you breathless with awe and make the ride totally worth the pain and effort. We ride back to Hanle and spend the evening in town before we embark on another adventurous day.

The final destination on this Motorcycle tour of Ladakh by BRM Expeditions is the highest sweet water lake in the world, Tso Moriri. A pristine high-altitude lake nestled in the Changthang plateau, Tso moriri is a world into itself. It’s a place where wild horses roam free, and migratory birds fill the skies. The serenity of this region is bound to leave an indelible mark on your heart. We camp near the lake and give ourselves enough time to soak in the pleasure of freedom that this place has to offer. Overnight in Camps lakeside.

Early morning in Tso Moriri is a quieter experience than the Morning in Pangong. Almost meditative, Tso moriri is a heaven for bird watching. After breakfast, we embark on the last day of our ride as we head back to civilization and the hustle in Leh town. The 220 km ride takes a good portion of a day and we reach our hotel by early evening. Post refreshments we gather at the hotel for a final dinner and bid adieu to travelers who came as clients and leave as friends.
