Read on to learn all about what this amazing motorcycle tour entails and why it’s perfect for any adventure-lover looking for their next big thrill.

Zanskar is a little-visited river valley between Ladakh and Kashmir. Until 1974 the valley was entirely off-limits to foreigners and even the interest of Domestic tourists in India was very limited. One of the major reason was the lack of connectivity.  The Kargil – Padum road was not ‘constructed’ until 1979. An area rich in History, Zanskar has only recently been opened for exploration for the wider world through paved roads and hence connectivity.

Though the efforts to establish connectivity had been on for many years, owing to the difficult landscape and harsh working conditions, it has taken a long time for the work to be completed.

The completion of road has enabled connectivity with Manali – Leh highway on the south and via Lingshed, another route to Leh.

Zanskar Motorcycle Tour by BRM EXPEDITIONS

Where we ride

We welcome you to Manali and assist with hotel checkin. The meeting with the group Captain and Bikes allocation is scheduled for early afternoon. After the bikes are allotted you are taken for a ride around town which you test the bikes. While doing so, we also cover some popular spots in Manali like the Hadimba temple, Naggar castle etc. Evening is free for you to explore the mall road and shop for anything you may require but might not have brought along.

Distance : Kms

Following breakfast at the hotel, we begin our ride to Jispa which is 140 Kms from Manali. Along the way we make stops at Solang Valley, one of the most famous tourist locations in Manali,  Atal tunnel ( the longest tunnel above 10000ft in the world), Sissu waterfall and Keylong for you to enjoy the breath-taking scenery and majestic views of Pir panjal Range of Himalayas. The ride itself is about four – five hours accounting for the halts and we reach Jispa post lunch or early in the evening where you are checked in to your pre booked swiss tents.

Distance : Kms

After Breakfast, we head to the Zanskar Valley through the newly constructed Darcha – Padum road. This road offers challenges with multiple stretches of off road riding, water crossings and inclines through the Shingo La pass but the landscape is amazing. The Majestic Gombo Ranjan mountain serves as a beautiful backdrop for taking pictures on this bonafide adventure filled riding day. The distance between Jispa and Kargyak is about 70 Kms and the ride can take up to four hours with all the stoppages. We camp at Kargyak amidst a pristine camping site.

Distance : Kms

Though the distance between Kargyak and Padum is only 60kms, the ride is mostly through the off road section which increases the adventure quotient manifold. Another highlight of the day is a small hike to the ancient Phugtal Monastery. The monastery is one of the few monasteries in Ladakh that can be reached only by foot, making the experience all the more unique. In Padum you check in to a nice cosy hotel.

Distance : Kms

This day is scheduled to give you a break from daily riding and allowing you some time to familiarize yourself with the local way of life. You can explore the gompa, chat with Monks, shop for souvenirs and explore the local market. There are some trails around Padum that you can ride to as well, in case you want to explore on wheels.

Distance : Kms

After breakfast at the hotel we leave for Lamayuru, called the Moonland due to its landscape being similar to the surface of Moon. We ride through the recently opened road via Lingshed. This road has very less traffic hence the natural splendor is at its best. The steep climbs through  Zangla , Wangla and Lingshed through mostly dirt roads is an adventure hard to replicate. We cross two high altitude passes, Singe La and Sir La and arrive in Lamayuru by late afternoon and head to pay Lamayuru monastery a visit. Evening in guest house.

Distance : Kms

After adventures of previous day, metaled roads are a welcome sight. Lamayuru to Leh is a 4 hour ride via very good roads and we make some stops at Khalsi and nimmoo for photographs and as we get close to Leh, the mandatory halts at Magnetic Hill and Gurudwara Pathar Sahab ensure that this day has plenty of sights as well as memories of some beautiful and serene places. Evening at hotel

Distance : Kms

Upon reaching leh we take a break from riding. This day is reserved for you to explore the local market, hunt for souvenirs or take some well deserved rest in your hotel rooms. Since you will be returning to network connectivity after 3-4 days, you can also utilise the time to catch up on things back home.

Distance : Kms

Our last riding day of the tour and we pick up bikes from Local vendor and ride to the erstwhile highest motorable pass in the world, KHARDUNGLA. This is the last spot we cover on this tour and also it’s the most famous Landmark for tourists visiting Ladakh. The dinner at hotel brings our tour to an official end.

Distance : Kms

Transport to leh airport is arranged for you to fly back to Delhi and onwards.
